Introduce:
Install new locks, contact Mr. Beth (Risk Management), and inform the University of equipment purchases and sales. (Richard Cassin, Scott Rathjen)
Responsibilities include seeing that the information in the W6YX.exe program on LOTS-A is kept up to date (the program generates membership rosters and mailing labels), working with Paul Deas to improve and support the program (PASCAL knowledge helpful), and keeping the membership informed through mailings/newsletters. (Lane smith, Dave Kehlet...)
Responsible for new members equipment orientation and checkout, advisor for equipment purchases and sales, human factors at the station -- equipment configuration, and of course, responsible for keeping the station on the air. (Wayne Wright, Pete Mahowald...)
Someone to keep track of upcoming contests and appoint individuals responsible for the organization and paperwork of specific contests. Also to give advice on how to make W6YX more competitive. (Gary Bronner, Mike L., Denny Yao...)
A person to work with Police Chief Herrington and Ted Harris (of SPECS) to follow through with last spring's plans to integrate the club into the university's emergency communications system. The campus police recently purchased several thousand dollars worth of 2 meter FM equipment (walkie-talkies and base stations) and has asked us to advise and work with them. Herrington also asked the club to participate in the upcoming earthquake awareness week and the next simulated earthquake drill. (Stu Neubarth, Stan Falkow...)
Due to the heavy use of the 145.23 repeater by W6YX members, we should take on some of the work of maintaining and upgrading the repeater, which presently is jointly owned and operated by the Ford Aerospace and SRI radio clubs. Gary Hendra, WA6SUV, who is now doing almost all the maintenance of the repeater, is very eager to talk with a group of interested 'YXers about the future of the repeater and a meeting of all three clubs should be arranged. (Stu Neubarth, Pete Mahowald, Steve Gross, Wayne Wright...)
Civilization is encroaching on the station, in the long-term, we would like to have a site on the hill. Mike Villard and Harry Makler are currently investigating the possibility of getting our foot in the door now -- of putting some YX equipment up there (a perfect VHF spot!). Members are needed to help in this effort to help investigate site and facilities possibilities and work with university representatives. (Stu Neubarth, Gary Bronner...)
To keep the Earth station operable and easy for the general membership to use. (Wayne Wright, Dave Kehlet...)
Most members agree that some type of computing facilities are needed at the station -- for tracking OSCAR and the Soviet satellites, helping to log contests, for sending and receiving radio teletype and ASCII signals (e.g. satellite data and packet repeaters), etc. Once a computer is at the station, more applications will be apparent. We need to decide how the station's computing needs can be met. (Steve Gross, Stuart Biggs, Stu Neubarth, Glen Inn...)
Kenwood has yet to send us a correct invoice. Until we get one, we will keep the money of those that got equipment, and distribute the left-over money when the invoice comes. New development -- Kenwood TR-2500's for $200 each. Put your name on the list if interested.
We have been asked to help demonstrate Amateur Radio to Cub and Boy Scouts. The Scoutorama will be near the stadium and 110 VAC is available. Someone needs to contact the organizer of this event to see how we can help.
Contact between the club and its alumni can benefit both -- alumni are often financially well off and can make donations to the club, and they enjoy hearing from us and have been known to recruit employees from the club. We need to compile and keep current a list of alumni so we can send them information about our activities and needs. Some prominent alums with resources would be asked to help with this effort. (Roger Melen, Dave Leeson, ...)
Several of our alumni, along with individuals that have made donations to the club, are willing and eager to speak to the club and other Stanford students on various topics. We need people to help arrange speakers' visits. Of immediate concern, Perter Dalton, President of KLM electronics wishes to speak here soon. (Dr. Villard, Harry Makler, Stuart Neubarth, ...)
